Cooking workshops

I host cooking workshops in my cooking studio in Drenthe
where cooking together, tasting, and learning lie at heart.

I love working with seasonal produce, ingredients from my own garden, and produce from the abundance of local businesses.
The workshops are small-scale and have a relaxed setup. There is plenty of room to ask questions, experiment, and above all: to enjoy what we create together.

What to expect during a cooking workshop at Food by Jenne:
๐Ÿƒ We cook with ingredients that match the season.
๐Ÿƒ You will learn techniques that you can easily apply at home.
๐Ÿƒ We work together in a calm, open atmosphere.
๐Ÿƒ We conclude by enjoying the prepared dishes together.
The workshops are suitable for both beginners and experienced home cooks. It’s not about perfection, but about understanding, tasting, and discovering.

World cuisines

"The hospitality and warmth of the Balinese people, along with their flavorful and aromatic cuisine, serve as a great source of inspiration for the 'Bali' world cooking workshop.
Bali is just one of the world cuisines I draw inspiration from during my workshops. Other themes may include the food from Surinam, Japan, or Thailand."

Afternoon tea

"In the Netherlands, the English Afternoon Tea is often referred to as 'High Tea.' However, there is a fundamental difference between these two terms, and I would love to share the history behind them with you during this workshop.
This workshop focuses on both sweet and savory delicacies. We will create a traditional English Afternoon Tea, which you will get to enjoy at a beautifully set table, served with a variety of teas.

a few examples of what we will make:
๐Ÿƒ Fresh scones
๐Ÿƒ Selection of delicate finger sandwiches
๐Ÿƒ various sweets treats
๐Ÿƒ Fresh lemon curd (after this, you’ll never want to buy the store-bought stuff again!)
...and other seasonal delicacies."

Fermentation

"Fermentation is a collective term for the process of preserving ingredients, making them last longer and easier to digest. This process uses beneficial microorganisms. Fermentation can take place through fermentation (e.g., ginger beer), bacteria (e.g., lactic acid fermentation), or fungi (e.g., tempeh)."
Pickling is a fun and healthy way to preserve your seasonal fruits and vegetables. In Japan, this method is called Tsukémono. In this workshop, you will learn more about this specific form of fermentation, where we use a "quick pickling" technique.

Surinamese cuisine

Surinamese dishes with a contemporary twist.
“Inspired by the flavors of my childhood.”
This cooking workshop is perfect for anyone who wants to get to know this cuisine, which is so close to my heart. The Surinamese kitchen is incredibly diverse and culinarily rich, thanks to the influences of its many different cultures.

Zuurdesem

Sourdough

"Sourdough can be used for so much more than just delicious bread. In this cooking workshop, we will bake breads using a sourdough starter.
And instead of discarding your sourdough discard (after feeding your starter), you will learn how to use it in both sweet and savory dishes."

EcoStoofยฎ workshop

EcoStoof® workshop

“In this fun workshop, you will learn how to cook with the EcoStoof®. This wonderful concept is based on the traditional hay box method and was modernized by the founders of the EcoStoof®: Caro and Iris."

Why cook with the EcoStoof®?
It is a sustainable and effortless way of slow cooking. Because your dish cooks itself using retained heat, you save up to 80% on energy while keeping all the vitamins and flavors perfectly preserved. It’s safe, healthy, and gives you more time to enjoy your day while your meal prepares itself.
